Party Party Party

Can anyone tell me about the best party they have ever been to? Why was it so great? Did you happen to be "on" that night so everyone was astounded by your grace, beauty or intelligence? I think it must be more than that. Maybe it was the food, maybe it was the place, maybe it was the reason for the party, maybe it was because of who was invited...it all worked and it will forever stay on your mind and memory as the mind blowing party of the century.

Share your tips with me and the rest of the world...give us your ideas and thoughts of an amazing party either given or attended.

Making turkey entertaining

Let's talk turkey or have you had enough at this point? Well, I am talking about making a holiday (that you plan for every year) entertaining, warm and inviting.

Here is my deal. For every celebration, my family comes to me for the meal and the hooplah. They think, well, Valorie puts on parties all of the time so let's go to her house for something good and for something that is quite possibly unusual. Well, guess what? I am busy and running around like the rest of the world so how am I going to pull something together that is delicious (without a ton of work that takes me away from my clients) and enjoyable without going over the edge of the cliff?

Here is how my Thanksgiving hunt for the perfect meal began:

In my travels, I happened to come upon a cute party store called Budding Gourment http://www.buddinggourmet.com which is based in Fairfield, Connecticut. Leslie Arcesi, President and do everything for a party gal, is kind and gracious and has some fun accessories in her store that can add some pizazz to your party (invites, flowers, tabletop, olive oils...).

While looking around, I found a very nice Thanksgiving menu from Tim La Bant who runs Tim La Bant Catering, LLC http://www.timlabant.com. Because I like to test new vendors out on myself and my family before I use them for clients, I decided that because his menu looked good, because I could always use great caterers for future events, and because, quite frankly, I needed help with Thanksgiving dinner, I called and arranged to have him put together a meal for T day.

Tim was gracious, accomodating and knowledgeable. Can it get any better than that? Yes, it can. In a pinch he delivered the whole meal (I got caught on I95 and couldn't pick up the meal in time), he supplied perfect instructions, the containers were well organized, the food was fresh and the overall quality of the meal??? Well, that was a whole other story.

To describe his cooking make take some time. His food was approachable and almost warm and cozy (he chose foods that everyone is acquianted with...no ostrich this year) and yet it was better than great. For the first time at a holiday meal, everyone was silent (is that a good thing?) because they were eating, eating and eating some more...1sts, 2nds and 3rds happened until there was no food left (a first for any big meal where I cook or order enough for the next day's dinner). I can't say enough about how good things were. Roasted apple cider brined Heriloom Turkey, baked yams with ginger molasses butter (oh my gosh...didn't get to see this dish much because my daughter kept it close to her side), salad of lola rosa greens with carmelized pears, walnuts and pomegranate seeds topped with a light buttermilk vinaigrette (I saw people eating salad that shocked and amazed me), green beans with lemon zest (absolutely perfect), and cornbread sausage stuffing with sage (unique texture and not overwhelming like most stuffings). All I can say is yummy! Thank you Tim...got your next holiday menu together yet?

OK so once we were done with the amazing meal, we moved onto the desserts (Tim doesn't bake) which came from my favorite dessert/bread place, SONO Baking company http://www.sonobakingcompany.com. Pumpkin pie, pear cranberry pie and an assortment of cookies made the dinner complete. Perfect crusts and combinations topped of our most perfect Thanksgiving meal.

So, my adventure lead me to old and new treasure: Tim La Bant Catering and SONO Baking Company.

A Scary Party...boooooo!

Went out trick or treating last night..what fun seeing the houses all decked out for the scary holiday! We, 3 familes in all, were lucky because we had a nice dinner at Centro in downtown Fairfield CT..great service..they didn't care that kids were running around with swords and things! Plus it was nice to get a drink and a cool pizza before running around in the dark...after the trips from house to house, there was a nice party at a friend's house celebrating her birthday...cake, wine, and decorations topped the evening and made it a Holloween worth remembering.
